Technically it is not waterproof, and it's water resistant. The iPhone 12 Pro is rated IP68, so it is water resistant up to 6 meters underwater for 30 mins. It may survive heavy rain, but definitely not recommended to swim with it. Apple noted that this resistance is not permanent and may decrease over time.
